Gideon Robotics Team

As part of our Principles of Technology course, Gideon students are participating in a robotics design contest.   This year's teams have selected the names Terminator Dawgs and Malicious Mutts.  Instructor Caleb Robinson  reports that "the Gideon robotic teams' season is well underway."  We are just starting the second semester "and we find ourselves starring at a robot.  If you asked us back in September if we thought we would be this far, the answer would have been no.  The two teams have been working very hard at designing, building, and programming the robot since the beginning of the program.  We have until February 27, 2010 to finish both robots and have them ready for competition."

Through this program, the class has had the help of several mentors from all over Missouri that have aided in the process.  According to Mr. Robinson: "The students are very engaged in the activity.  Some have even mentioned that this is the first time that they have ever built anything."

In describing the process Mr. Robinson indicates that this "is a difficult process to complete because of the rules that limit what you can use and how big the robot can be.  The question that keeps coming up is, why can't we use duct tape?"

The limitations are all part of the challenge.  The students  have to build a robot that shoot balls into three different goals and they have to be able to maintain control of the robot at the same time.   According to Mr. Robinson, "the students can't simply strap a pitching machine on the robot and go at it.  We are still far from being done and with the first competition already past, we can't afford to stop or slow down now.  Look for us at Cape on February 27, 2010.  We plan on being the teams that are winning!"

If you would like more information about starting a team or about the competitions it can be found at www.usfirst.org

Mission

The mission of the Gideon School District is to educate students to become responsible, productive participants in society.

Welcome

Welcome to the Gideon School District web site. As a district, we have made a commitment to utilize technology to enhance the educational process in our quest to help our students, teachers, and community members become the "life-long learners" demanded by today's society. It is our goal to use technology to open new educational opportunities to our students and community, to centralize district contact information, to provide access to public data and information concerning the Gideon School District, to establish a secure means by which parents can have timely access to information about their child's educational progress, to enhance instructional planning and assessment, to manage the district's curriculum, and to more efficiently manage district resources as well as implement other innovations as they become available.
